Terms of Participation – Silhouette Competition

1 · Organizer
The organizer of the “Aus Papier Welten” (Worlds of Paper) silhouette competition is Wolgaster Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH, Kronwiekstraße 3, 17438 Wolgast, represented by Managing Director David Adler. The competition is part of Rungesommer 2027, celebrating the 250th birthday of Philipp Otto Runge. The partner organization is Jugendkunstschule Greifswald / KunstWerkstätten.
2 · Eligibility
- Participation is open to all residents of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern—children, youth, adults, artists, and seniors, regardless of experience level.
- Participation is free of charge. No fees will be incurred.
- Participants under the age of 18 require the consent of a legal guardian. This will be requested in the entry form.
- Jury members and employees of the organizer are excluded from the selection process.
3 · The Work
- Format A4 (210 × 297 mm).
- Pure paper work—cut, not painted, printed, or collaged.
- One motif, no series. One entry per person.
- The work must be created by the participant and must not infringe upon the rights of third parties.
- Works that violate applicable law or contain offensive content will not be considered.
4 · Submission Process
Submissions must consist of a photo or scan of the work as a JPG or PDF, with a maximum file size of 15 MB. There are two ways to enter: via the form on the competition page or by email to papierwelten@runge-in-wolgast.de including name, age, place of residence, and the title of the work in the body of the email.
Submissions by mail are not intended. The original will only be requested if a work has been selected for the exhibition.
5 · Submission Deadline
Submissions are accepted starting September 1, 2026. The deadline for entries is January 31, 2027. The date of receipt by the organizer is decisive.
6 · Age Categories
The age on January 31, 2027, is decisive. Assignment is based on the date of birth provided.
- A · Little Masters — up to 5 years old
- B · Early Bloomers — elementary school, 6–10 years old
- C · Explorers — lower secondary, 11–14 years old
- D · Creators — upper secondary / apprentices, 15–19 years old
- E · Open / Adults — 20–59 years old
- F · Late Harvest / Life’s Work — generation 60+
7 · Jury and Selection
The jury consists of Henning Wagenbreth, Sophia Martineck, Stefanie Riech, and Sultan Virk. They will meet on February 18, 2027, for the evaluation day to select the works for the exhibition. The jury’s decision is final and will not be justified individually. There is no legal entitlement to inclusion in the exhibition.
8 · Notification and Originals
All selected participants will be notified after February 18, 2027, via the email address provided and will be asked to submit their original work. The originals are required for the exhibition and will be returned after the exhibition ends.
Originals can be picked up after the end of the exhibition at the Rungehaus Wolgast or at the Jugendkunstschule Greifswald. We will inform the selected participants of the exact period in good time via email; it will be at least eight weeks. Those who cannot pick up their work should contact us—we will then return the work and cover the costs. Works that have neither been picked up nor requested after six months cannot be stored permanently; we will contact you once more before this happens.
9 · Exhibition
The selected works will be exhibited starting May 8, 2027, at the Rungehaus Wolgast and the Jugendkunstschule Greifswald. The opening will include an award ceremony.
One work will be honored in each of the six age categories. The winners will receive a certificate and will be invited to the award ceremony on May 8, 2027. Information regarding further prizes will be provided on this page in due time. There is no entitlement to a cash payout, and prizes are non-transferable.
10 · Handling of Submitted Files
- The uploaded files will be used for the administration of the competition: category assignment, review by the jury, and preparation of the exhibition.
- They are not publicly accessible online but are stored in a protected area.
- Submissions that are not selected will be deleted by May 31, 2027.
11 · Rights of Use
By submitting your entry, you grant the organizer a simple, non-exclusive, and royalty-free right of use for the submitted image of your work. The copyright remains entirely with you. The right of use is limited to the execution and documentation of this competition, the exhibition at the Rungehaus Wolgast and the Jugendkunstschule Greifswald, as well as reporting on the competition and Rungesommer 2027, including the website runge-in-wolgast.de.
Excluded are: transfer to third parties for their own purposes, advertising for other products or companies, sale of the images, and content-related editing. Only adjustments to size and image cropping are permitted.
Publication on social media and the mention of your name will only take place with express consent in the form. You can revoke this consent at any time without formal requirements. Without consent, we will display the work without a name.
The right of use is limited until December 31, 2028—until the completion of the documentation for Rungesommer 2027. After that, we will remove the images from the website and will not use them further. Already printed publications and archival holdings remain unaffected by this, as they cannot be recalled.
12 · Minors
Participants who are under 18 at the time of submission require the consent of a legal guardian. The guardian confirms participation and the granting of the rights of use described above in the form and provides their own email address. Without this consent, the submission cannot be accepted.
13 · Data Protection
Information on which data is processed, on what basis, and for how long can be found in the Data Protection Information for the Competition.
14 · Amendments
If the competition must be canceled, postponed, or changed for an important reason, the organizer will provide information on runge-in-wolgast.de and via email to the participants.
